Toronto day three

Well so far so good.
It was a little chilly this morning. Who says there is no snow in Toronto?

I had a fascinating time at the training day for volunteers of the XVI International AIDS Conference. I can't wait to see what happens the rest of this week. I feel like I am in the centre of the universe right now... LOL
You can check out the Conference via the website or tune to CBC for coverage.
I hear Jian Ghomeshi is going to be there to cover it for Radio One.

Oh by the way, thank you for your good wishes on my job interview because, on the same day I started this one week job, I was also offered that job with the bank through the temp. Agency. How's that for beginners luck? I finish my work at the AIDS conference on the 18th and I can start that job on the 21st... That gives me my birthday off.

Have you ever heard of a traffic calming zone?
In other words... Speed bumps ahead.
In the pace of Toronto I will go slow as I can but it ain't easy.
Look what has happened in just three short days.

I suggest "Red Bull" Barbara. I am too West Coast laid back to keep up with all my Torontian pals! And I drink coffee and Red Bull still can't keep up. Or I bet Georgie knows a good energy drink he seems to have tons of it. I was thinking I should ask him, I get so tired now that I am a mom. And have to work on my days off. Stupid Back to School sales. I left him a bday message, cause I got a reminder. Do you think he knows his bday is coming or something??

Hey good for you on the job offer! Sounds like everything is going to plan. What will you be doing at the bank?

Well done on getting that job for a week. The good thing is that you get to celebrate your birthday with a day off (something I do every year).

Have a great weekend of exploration and settling into your new surroundings.

Great news with the bank job, Barbara! :)

I am fueled by coffee. It seems to be what Toronto runs on.
Your welcome Yellow. It was my last chance to buy you a really big bag of chocolate chips, use them well. :-)
By the time you come to TO I will have figured out the best places to go maybe.
The bank job is calling up banks across the country and letting them know that the client can have the mortgage or not. Speaking french is the key to me getting that job. Easy 20 minute commute if I take my car...pay is almost twice as much as I got at my last job. Salary is important to people in Toronto. They need it for the humungous rents, compared to Montreal...
I would still rather work for less and for fun at The Hour.

This seems so unreal sometimes. I feel like I am living in someone elses life at the moment.

I just read up on the AIDS conference. It is very disappointing that our PM has chosen not to attend. (Would love to insert insults here!)
It sounds as though it is going to be a very important event. I am glad we have an "insider" to share all the goings on with us.

Side note: are you going to attend the concert? What I review that would be!

Barbara said...

As a paid volunteer I am not sure we are allowed to attend the concert... I will look into it. I know the real volunteers are all invited guests. They have priority. As they should. I could pay the 50$ and go... Good cause.

Hope you'll have a lot of fun in Toronto, and you're right Toronto seems to run on coffee, it such a cool city with so much to do.
It seems that the AIDS conference gets a lot of media coverage (at least from the french Montreal's newspapers!)

"paid volunteer"? Isn't that an oxymoron?

Barbara said...

Barbara B. I help look after the volunteers make sure they are taken care of and get what they need to do the job. See the correlation between this and audience wrangling? They are a great bunch for doing this. I am just lucky I get paid to look after them. :-) This conference would not work without them.
Three cheers for the real volunteers!
